Stainless Steel Fabrication
Stainless steel fabrication is the fabrication of stainless steel into a wide array of products. The process uses standardised techniques that work better than anodizing or cold working methods. The fabrication of stainless involves grinding and polishing, cutting by shearing and laser cutting, and more.
What are the four main types of stainless steel?
There are four main classes of stainless steel used in fabrication work today. Each grade behaves differently under load, corrosion, and surface finishing.
Type 430 — used for general fabrication work where moderate corrosion resistance is acceptable.
Type 304 (A2) — a low alloy steel suitable for fabrication, but not as corrosion resistant as type 430.
Type 316 — marine grade stainless with molybdenum added for higher chloride resistance.
Type 410 — martensitic grade, used where higher strength and hardness are required.

How is stainless steel manufactured?
It is made from taking a stainless steel bar and pressure rolling it to make it as thin as possible. Thinner material offers better corrosion resistance and lower fabrication costs through simplified machinery design.
When fabrication work makes up 56% by tonnage of all stainless steel products, it must be considered when producing stainless in volume.
Who makes most of the stainless steel?
Acerinox is the world's largest producer of stainless steel — exceeding the combined output of the next three largest producers. China produces the most steel overall, including stainless variants.
What is metal fabrication?
Metal fabrication is the process of building machines and structures from raw metal materials. Fabrication engineers design, install, and repair large-scale industrial equipment at dedicated shops performing complex processes.
Fabrication shops are usually small fabrication facilities at major manufacturing plants. They provide fabrication, repair, and assembly of structural components for production processes, including ship hulls, airplane fuselages, and spacecraft fuel tanks.
Metal fabrication includes cutting the metal into various shapes to make products using welded construction techniques or bolt fasteners.
Stainless Steel Fabrication Services
Taltech Engineering brings over 30 years of experience in business and the fabrication of stainless steel. The company works with mild steel and provides third-party manufacturing services.
Taltech invested in laser cutting equipment over the years, allowing us to create incredibly detailed designs and cutouts. The facility spans 2,000 square feet and works with 304 & 316 stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminium.
The company offers fabrication services all over the country and provides plastic fabrication for the medical, automotive, and aerospace industries.
